Does Medicare cover Acupuncture?
Yes and no. Currently Acupuncture coverage is limited to treatment of lower back pain. The provider must also be a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), AND a Licensed Acupuncturist. A non MD or DO Licensed Acupuncturist is not able to bill Medicare for acupuncture services.
Currently, there are very few MDs and DOs that meet this qualification.
